Russia’s Lavrov Set for China Visit Tuesday
The Chinese Foreign Ministry made the announcement in an official statement, citing a formal invitation extended by senior Chinese diplomat and Political Bureau member Wang Yi.
"At the invitation of Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC (Communist Party of China) Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will pay an official visit to China from April 14 to 15," the ministry said.
The visit comes on the heels of failed marathon negotiations between Washington and Tehran, which concluded without an agreement after two days of intensive talks held Saturday and Sunday in Pakistan's capital.
The diplomatic breakdown has since triggered a dramatic escalation: President Trump subsequently announced a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, set to take effect at 1400 GMT Monday — a move that threatens to severely disrupt one of the world's most critical and heavily trafficked energy corridors.
