Russia Says It is Key Partner in Global Food
Moscow intends to expand beyond traditional grain and fat-and-oil exports, pursuing joint agrotechnological projects with international partners. According to ministry data, Russia remains one of the world’s largest producers and exporters of grain. Over the past five years, the country has exported grain and pulses to 115 nations. In 2025 alone, Russia supplied 50 million tons of grain—including 41 million tons of wheat—to global markets, with nearly 80% of exports going to Africa and the Middle East.
Russia plans to raise grain exports to 55 million tons this year and aims to reach 80 million tons by 2030. “Our end goal is to ensure the global food security and strengthen our nation’s position in the world,” Lut said.
The ministry noted that Russia seeks not only trade in end products but also “complex partnerships” encompassing research, education, and infrastructure development to enhance agricultural efficiency in partner nations. Russian-made seeds were sold to 35 countries in 2025, according to the ministry.
Agriculture has been highlighted as a central area of cooperation in recent diplomatic discussions. Talks between Russian and Nigerian foreign ministers earlier this month emphasized partnership potential, while Namibian Foreign Minister Selma Ashipala-Musavyi described relations with Russia as “historical and strategic,” noting that opportunities for future collaboration are “vast.”
