Russia denounces foreign interference in Iran’s affairs
During a phone call with his Iranian counterpart, Sergei Shoigu, the council’s secretary, “resolutely condemned another attempt by external forces to interfere in the internal affairs of Iran,” the Security Council’s press service says.
Shoigu also extends condolences to Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, over the “numerous victims” resulting from recent unrest in the country.
The Russian official expresses willingness to strengthen bilateral cooperation under the Treaty of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, signed between Russia and Iran on January 17, 2025.
Both sides agree to maintain contact to coordinate their positions on shared security concerns.
The treaty formalizes expanding military and economic ties between Moscow and Tehran, a relationship that has drawn criticism from Western nations over the alignment of the two countries’ defense policies, according to reports.
