Russia, Saudi Arabia Agree on Visa-Free Travel
The pact was finalized during a bilateral business forum held in Riyadh on Monday.
This arrangement coincides with ongoing efforts by both nations to strengthen economic collaboration.
According to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandr Novak, who co-chairs the intergovernmental committee on trade and economic partnership between Moscow and Riyadh, the total Russian investment in the Kingdom has surged sixfold over the past year, while Saudi investment in Russia has risen by 11%.
The visa-free travel agreement, officially released by Moscow last week prior to the signing ceremony, permits citizens from Russia and Saudi Arabia to visit each other’s countries without a visa for up to 90 days annually.
The treaty will come into effect 60 days after being signed and ratified by both governments.
However, trips for employment, education, or permanent residence will still necessitate separate permits.
The exemption will also not cover Russian travelers visiting Saudi Arabia for the Hajj pilgrimage.
Novak, who headed the Russian delegation in Riyadh, also emphasized the resumption of direct flights between the two countries, which had been suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
He noted, “We expect that in the near future, alongside Arab carriers, Russian airlines will also begin operating flights.”
