Ukraine Signals Willingness to Resume Prisoner Swap with Russia

(MENAFN) Ukraine has secured Russian agreement to restart prisoner exchange operations following diplomatic consultations brokered by Türkiye and the United Arab Emirates, Rustem Umerov, secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council, announced Saturday.

"As a result of these negotiations, the parties agreed to activate the Istanbul arrangements. This concerns the release of 1,200 Ukrainians," Umerov posted on Facebook.

Technical discussions will commence shortly to resolve all procedural and logistical matters, Umerov stated, noting that Kiev targets returning Ukrainian prisoners before the winter holiday period.

Ukraine and Russia conducted three negotiating sessions in Türkiye during May, June, and July, establishing the Istanbul accords governing the exchange of detained personnel and remains of deceased soldiers.
